Anambra LG boss, son, rescued from kidnappers

Operatives of the Imo State Police command have rescued the chairman of Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, Ifeanyi Odimegwu, his son and driver from their suspected abductors.

Police Commissioner Dasuki Galadanchi who briefed newsmen in Owerri, on Tuesday, said Odimegwu was abducted along Owerri-Port Harcourt expressway in the early hours of Sunday.

He said the abduction occurred at Umuapu axis of the expressway while Odimegwu, his son and driver were going home after a church programme in Elele, Rivers State.

“Eye witnesses mobilised by my men assisted by members of vigilante group at Ihie and Obrugo communities moved in too,” he added.

The CP said the kidnappers, on sighting policemen in Umuapu forest where they had taken their captives, abandoned the LGA chairman and ran away with his bag containing money, phones and some documents.
