Police arrest kingpin of ex-Anambra lawmaker’s killers
The Police in Anambra State have arrested the kingpin of the gunmen that allegedly killed a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Anthony Igboka.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Dandaura, disclosed this on Monday at a press briefing in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
He said the arrest of the kingpin followed an aggressive manhunt launched by the command.
He gave the name of the gang leader as Chigbo Aniegbu alias transformer.
Aged 27, Aniegbu, the CP said was from the same Nimo community as the slain Igboka.
He said two of the members of the gang were at still large, adding that efforts were being made to track them.
Dandaura said, “It would be recalled that on the 16th of April,2019 at about 8.18pm, the President General Nimo community one Chief Frank Anthony Igboka was shot and murdered by gunmen around Nimo market in Njikoka LGA of Anambra State.
“Following the incident, the Command under my watch launched an aggressive manhunt of perpetrators of this dastardly act which led to the arrest of the main kingpin one Chigbo Aniegbu aka Transformer, aged 27 years of Abba, Nimo in connection with the murder of the late President General.
“Other gang members are at large and effort is being intensified to apprehend them” The CP gave names of those at large as Chukwunonso alias, Nwasami, and Obinna Okafor.
The Police Commissioner added, “Suspects have all been declared wanted by the Command and a cash reward of N5m was promised to anybody who provided useful information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects by His Excellency the executive governor of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano”.
