NASS leadership: APC north-central governors endorse Lawan, Gbajabiamila

State governors from the north-central region, all of whom are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and bigwigs in the ruling party have pledged their support for Senator Ahmed Lawan as Senate president and Femi Gbajabiamila as speaker of the House of Representatives.

The decision, revealed by Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state, was reached in the evening of Thursday, April 18, after a closed-door meeting of the governors in Asokoro, Abuja, Daily Trust reports.

A statement on the meeting quoted Governor Lalong as saying: “a meeting of governors and the party chairmen from North Central today resolved to go along with the decision of the party’s endorsement of Senator Ahmed Lawan as Senate President and Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 9th National Assembly.

“Since it was a party affair, our decision was in line with the wish of the party and that is why we the governors and state chairmen of our party from the zone are in support of the decision of the party.”

Concerning the geopolitical zone’s chance to gain much based of the governors’ choices, Lalong said: “we are still deliberating. We have not exhausted the positions with respect to zoning.

“Our decision and position are only on two issues, while the rest deliberations are ongoing. There is going to be a continuation of our meeting in respect of positions to the North Central with both Mr. President and the party.”

Meanwhile, we reported that President Muhammadu Buhari might have approved the candidacies of Lawan and Gbajabiamila.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) also met with the newly elected APC members in the House of Representatives on Monday, March 25, over the same issue.
