Road To Mongomo: The Arrival (Day 1)
The highly anticipated golf tournament, organised by the 3e Actuaries Open, finally commenced in Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea.
Over 100 professional golf players from over 6 continents of the world are already on ground to battle it out on the 18 holes course with very interesting terrain.
Golfers were seen at different parts of the course warming up in preparation for the D-Day.
Around noon, at a special reception organised for the president of Equatorial Guinea, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo formally welcomed all golfers and the media to the peaceful country, while promising them a great time.
He also however used the opportunity to thank the host and tournament sponsor, Mr. Olawale Opayinka, for his continued efforts at putting the country on the world map by bringing the world to visit his home.
The president also stated that plans are in top gear to build a bigger and world class golf course in Malabo.
In his response, Mr. Opayinka thanked the president for his hospitality and supports over the years.
The chairman of 3e Actuaries Open insisted that despite his excellency not being a player, his love and passion for the country have been the main ingredients responsible for the successes recorded anytime the event is organised.
Mr. Opayinka also thanked the players who took out time to travel long distances and wished them a great week ahead.
